I just want to show you guys I’m alive! I spent the previous week doing Medical Humanities stuff (theater, creative writing, art, etc) and now I’m spending a week at home doing research. By research, I mean enjoying mom’s cooking and napping on a mat in the grass under a cherry tree.

But I don’t have my tablet at my parents’, so I’m posting a preview of something I started as a medical humanities project and still working on…

Made sketches for my newest long-term project, a fashion Zodiac series focusing on the mythological origins of the each Zodiac sign…

…instead of studying. Good thing these 8 sketches only took like 3 HOURS

I’m going to fail anatomy and it will be ok because I make silly drawings of pretty ladies *facepalm*

Last four will be coming later…when I don’t have to study??

Guess what I’m doing instead of reading up on Greek mythology??

Coloring this has been pretty fun, since the Disney artists have already chosen all the colors for me. The only things I had problems with were: 

• Mulan. She has three ensembles, and I was originally going to do the blue/maroon dress she wears at the end…but the military jacket didn’t look good/make sense in blue. I’m really happy with how it turned out, using the colors from the first dress she wears in the film.
• Snow White. I really didn’t want her to come off clownish or corny, or like she had torn a Mondrian from the wall and used it as a dress. Though that may be interesting…
• Rapunzel. Her dress is purple on purple on purple-ish pink. Jasmine wears all blue, but all-blue is different from all-purple, which strangely doesn’t translate into modern fashion too well, unless you’re the Purple Lady. May tweak some more

Anyway, now for LINEART. And this is going to be A LOT of lineart. Ugh. But I’m still pretty excited to see how the final product comes out!

Moving onward. I like the way my sketches look—now that I’ve figured out that pen pressure works in Photoshop CS2

WIP of my next tea, finally! I’ve been so ridiculously lazy with my tea illustrations when I originally had plans to do like 8 of them this month. Pfft.

But ever since I got back from the cruise I’ve been really lazy with a lot of things—like my room, which is a den of horrible clutter. And my reading. And writing.

Oh, man, there’s only about a week of break left! Where’s all the gusto I had around the holiday season, when I pumped out all those drawings? I NEED TO ACCOMPLISH SOMETHING AAHH

Here are the next two linearts! UGH EARL GREY WHY YOU SO DIFFICULT! I spent such a long time on her stupid pose and I still think she looks stupid but…whatever, they can’t all be winners, right? But I think Cinnamon made up for it. Neither of them are as interesting-looking as Echinacea or Darjeeling, but it might have to do with both of them lacking big old animals and non-Western dress.

Now for the coloring, my least favorite part. I feel like when I sketch something, it’s easy for me to say, “This is going to turn out awesome!” But then I add colors and it just looks flat and cheap and just plain ugly. Fingers crossed…

After a long hiatus, my next teas are on the way!! (This is how I celebrated the last day of the semester’s classes lol) I’m hoping to finish four before Christmas (Echinacea, Earl Grey, Darjeeling, Cinnamon), so here’s to keeping up my current pace…despite a portfolio and two exams before the REAL end of my semester. 

I was supposed to finish Echinacea by T-day. That didn’t work out but I learned that the Plains Indians are known for using Echinacea, not the Native Americans on the east coast—so thankfully the whole Thanksgiving tie-in thing goes out the window, and my lateness is excusable.

Oh wow, drawing animals. Daunting, initially frustrating, then satisfying. Not sure if I’m learning anything though.
