LIMINOWL

I FORGOT TO CHECK MY FLATWORMS FOR D-BIO LAB YESTERDAY!

Maybe it had something to do with being wiped out after my FREAKY EXAM. I have a reminder written in my planner, too! Totally missed it.

My poor partner went on her day and stupid me had to forget. I hope the worms are still alive.

PLEASE WORMS, PLEASE LIVE, DON’T LET MY PARTNER DOWN. AND WE SPENT LIKE 30 PAINFUL MINUTES TRYING TO CUT YOU IN HALF, SO PLEASE DON’T DIE IN VAIN

Smaug the protein

While studying Dbio, I learned that there is a protein called Smaug. Hmmm…

So then I read a little further in Developmental Biology by Scott Gilbert and it says, “Smaug (yes, it’s named after the dragon in Lord of the Rings) is an RNA-binding protein often involved in repressing translation” (Gilberts, 206).

UHHH SMAUG ISN’T IN THE LORD OF THE RINGS, HE’S IN THE HOBBIT, COME ON NOW!

I guess this post makes me a nerd on two levels.

The Life of a Botanist by ~liminowl
My pressed plant collection in Sydney, Australia, posted from my old Deviantart account. Anyways, this is relevant in three ways:
(1) I am reading The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo in which a whole wall of mounted flowers features.
(2) I want to press plants again this spring, but this time, instead of donating them to the local herbarium, I’d like to frame them and use them to decorate my walls.
(3) Senioritis is hitting me hard and I would like to add more things to my list of things to do when not studying for class.

The great thing about studying both the sciences and the humanities is that you can turn to one subject when you get frustrated by the other.
The bad thing is you can get frustrated by both.
Maybe I should just quit school.
