Studying 7 days a week

No rest for the weary

Only if I pass anatomy…

Only if I pass anatomy…

Anatomy lecture. Every morning.

The result of tonight’s painting session. It’s my first time painting on a canvas…and with acrylic. Turned out wonky but I’m still a tiny bit proud!

Skeletal Disney: Snow White by ~liminowl
First part of my Skeletal Disney series, inspired by a close med school friend of mine who loves Disney Princesses and skeletons/zombies. I did these for her birthday, which is conveniently just before Halloween :)
(And on top of that, I’m studying human anatomy right now and literally have a box of bones to use as reference)
PART TWO: CINDERELLA
PART THREE: SLEEPING BEAUTY

Halfway done with anatomy. Still alive.
(BTW I get a strange kick out of dissecting blood vessels. Maybe I’ll add vascular surgery to my list?)

Drawing structures in this level of detail isn’t as useful as it is strangely calming. It lets me feel like I’m being productive. Took this photo of my sketch right before I put ugly labels all over it. (Taken with Instagram)

Whoa whoa whoa…look at that trapezius, those deltoids, biceps brachii, palmaris longus, flexor carpi radialis and ulnaris…Even infraspinatus and teres major! And pronator teres peeking out, too. Are you kidding me? I can’t believe these. If Glen Keane drew these from memory, then he knows anatomy better than any ol’ physician out there.

Whenever I make connections between my two passions—medicine and art—it excites me beyond belief. Studying anatomy can be a drag but I’m so lucky I’m in a place where I CAN study this and have it be relevant and useful for the rest of my life, whether I’m auscultating or sketching.

I’m so happy and grateful. And also sappy. Sorry. But now I’m pumped to review forearm and hand muscles…(And no, not just by staring at these, thank you very much)

Anatomy is rough

I am cutting into a cadaver tomorrow. Literally putting a knife in a deceased individual’s back, then peeling their flesh open like a book.

I’m excited but I would be lying if I said I was not nervous. But I am definitely grateful for the person who donated his or her body…hopefully I can do that person justice with my dissections.

I was feeling self-indulgent and drew myself a cover photo for FB. And because I was feeling particularly med student-y, I broke out the Netter’s Atlas and used that as reference. The colors came out hipster-ish, didn’t they?

I actually wanted to draw colorful flowers exploding from the sides and around it but I realized I have no idea how to draw flowers. I used to be good at it in high school but now I’ve plain forgotten :/

This took an hour, and I was listening to this, which I listen to whenever I draw anything that turns out well…
