Happy Easter! Today I’m making chicken shepherd’s pie, haricots verts, and Vietnamese coffee jelly for an Easter dinner with my ol’ anatomy teammates! Gotta get to cooking right away! But first, I finished my doodle of Miran last night. I was so awake last night, all the way past 4:30 AM…My sleep schedule will probably get thrown off again!

Jump into Spring by ~liminowl
Went from a depressing doodle to a joyous one in a single night. I try to be positive about things I can’t change, like the weather…but honestly, I miss green grass, green trees.
Drew this with “Silver Lining” by Rilo Kiley on repeat.

Been a bit of an insomniac for the past week…

I actually drew this a few months ago for Day 8 of the 30 Day challenge (favorite colors) but I think I’m going to start over and not cheat—by drawing them in the proper order and not skipping around.

I heard March is when it starts getting warmer here in the North…so here’s a springtime drawing! As much as I love winter clothes, I love spring…This past weekend was so sunny, I chose not to study Microbiology or Pharmacology at all! I went out for pho, volunteered, explored 3 Asian food stores, watched two movies (Emma Watson in The Perks of Being a Wallflower inspired this a bit), Top Chef and The Walking Dead, screeched while attempting to play video games and even went to the Big City for dim sum and ice cream. Good times.

I figured out how to do this! Anyways, here’s 1.5 hours of my life in 7 minutes…

And lo…my fancy magazine cover commission! Remember when I was working on this? It was challenging, but I actually really like how things turned out. I was very much influenced by Sachin Teng (style) and Kali Ciesemier (color).
This thing is going to be on the front cover of the Fall 2012 issue of the Hopkins Undergraduate Research Journal, which is being released tomorrow! If you happen to be in the Johns Hopkins/Baltimore area, grab a copy! This issue focuses on the many facets of health—healthcare delivery, medical ethics issues, mental health, American conceptions of wellness—all good stuff.
Here is the website, and this is the Facebook page!

I drew some characters from my first story (of three). From bottom right:
Hiron, best young archer in the west and secret bookworm. I forgot her wings here!
Dasyatis, aspiring adventurer and legendary hero, expert at knife-throwing, whittling, sarcasm
Galena, healer and magician in-training, conflicted do-gooder in search of her parents
Ulises, famed magician of the southeastern deserts, collects stars as a hobby nbd
Grebain, immortal cursed shapeshifter looking to redeem himself after past evil deeds…has a quiet personality
I was going to add the sixth character, a werewolf with abandonment issues, but I think you can see already I have problems drawing creatures, mainly I DON’T KNOW HOW
Hold on a mo, let me fix it…

THERE! Yes, good

Concepts for a new commission—because I wanted to post something less bloody and more cheery right before my sappy graduation post.
Look at me! So fancy. “Commission nbd”

Guess what I’m doing instead of reading up on Greek mythology??
Coloring this has been pretty fun, since the Disney artists have already chosen all the colors for me. The only things I had problems with were:
Mulan. She has three ensembles, and I was originally going to do the blue/maroon dress she wears at the end…but the military jacket didn’t look good/make sense in blue. I’m really happy with how it turned out, using the colors from the first dress she wears in the film.
Snow White. I really didn’t want her to come off clownish or corny, or like she had torn a Mondrian from the wall and used it as a dress. Though that may be interesting…
Rapunzel. Her dress is purple on purple on purple-ish pink. Jasmine wears all blue, but all-blue is different from all-purple, which strangely doesn’t translate into modern fashion too well, unless you’re the Purple Lady. May tweak some more
Anyway, now for LINEART. And this is going to be A LOT of lineart. Ugh. But I’m still pretty excited to see how the final product comes out!
(Sorry for the obnoxious watermark)
